To Tampere

Today we traveled by train from Helsinki to Tampere where my study tour will take place this week. It was nice to watch the scenery go by...as we left the city, more birch trees, fields, and lakes became the norm. 

The Lapland Hotel will be our home away from home this week. I was greeted with a personalized message on the TV screen and a photo of reindeer herding on the wall.

We walked down to the University of Tampere to see where I will meet my group tomorrow and explored the neighborhood a little bit. We walked into a shopping center with cool climbing structures in the middle. The kids definitely seemed to be enjoying the variety of climbers.

Next, we wandered into a small restaurant for dinner. The atmosphere was cozy with many local diners. We enjoyed our meal followed by live, local music.
